Battersea Power Station (again....)
Today was cold and horribly windy, not a great day for the VE celebrations. In the afternoon it was sunny with blue skies but that cold wind lingered all day.
The surgeon confirmed this morning that Gavin’s case has been accepted by Prof Jones the specialist oncologist at Royal Marsden, and is also being reviewed by the oncologist at UCL, so a dual review will be done. The Royal Marsden was the world's first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment and research and is the best cancer hospital in the UK. I will be contacted in due course to make appointments for Gavin to see the oncologists. He has to have a PET scan - not done at this hospital - before leaving hospital but they think he can go home in the next day or two.
Today Gavin was a bit better as he slept better now that all the IV drips are out. He still has a fair amount of pain and discomfort but is not taking any painkillers due to their adverse effect on the bowel. I spent the day with him and we watched some of the VE celebrations on TV. He is walking around more now but gets very tired. He has lost a lot of weight, which is not surprising as he did not eat for nearly 2 weeks.
Inca started her final veterinary science exams today, it has been so much work revising the extensive amount of work from the past 6 years. It has been a stressful time for her.
Anna is currently in San Diego visiting Adam. When most of the PhD programs she applied to were cancelled due to cancelled grants by the government, she was one of four candidates who were offered a Masters program instead. Although she already has a Masters degree it is different from the one she was offered, so she has decided to accept it. There is an outside chance it could filter into a PhD program if the department gets more funding grants.
A friend brought around a delicious cooked meal so I don't have to bother cooking supper tonight.
It's that power station again.....
