VE80 Kites

I put the TV on quite early to watch the VE80 commemoration coverage. After the introduction, the film The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse came on. I was already feeling quite emotional as MrQ would have loved reminiscing about being on the Tube with a friend playing his ukulele on VE Day. He used to love hearing the military bands too. That film tipped me over the edge and brought memories of losing my darling Ollie dog when it was first aired.

It was wonderful seeing the forces looking resplendent. The commentator mentioned, very high standards and an eye for perfection. Long may that continue. Major General James Bowder looked magnificent on his pure white (grey) horse Otto, which was a dead ringer for the horse in the film. Then Timothy Spall spoke Churchill's words including, wherever the bird of freedom chirps in human hearts ... Do not yield to violence and tyranny. My emotions were all over the place.

My daughter arrived and we drove our Honda S2000s on a mini-meet to Stapleford Aerodrome where we had lunch and waited for the flypast. As usual it was quite distant but we found the sight of the aircraft moving, particularly the Lancaster and the Red Arrows. A C-17 Globemaster (extras) brought our late Queen back from Edinburgh for her funeral.

I photographed the red kite in extras while I was feeding the birds early this morning.
