The Chancer

Beside Kinghorn Loch this afternoon.

These are orange-tip butterflies, Anthocharis cardamines. The female, on the right, is adopting a pose that signifies that she has aready mated and is no longer receptive.  It is also believed that she emits pheromones with the same message.

Nevertheless, the male continued to pester her for quite some time.

You will find a couple of extras today.
The first is a male approaching head-on.
The second is the flowerhead of its larval food plant, garlic mustard, Alliaria petiolata, bearing two eggs of an orange--tip butterfly.
