Algae
On one side of the coastal path leading to Thorney Island is the sea and on the other side there are agricultural fields with wide ditches and canals filled with fresh water which drains off these fields.
Algae can grow quite quickly when the temperature rises and there has not been much rain for a while. Today I noticed how, instead of looking gross like one often imagines algae to be, it was in fact rather lovely and lush, turning a painterly golden yellow in the sunshine.
It was busy in the village with Union flags going on display for tomorrow's VE Day events. I think it's good to remember it.
