Nicky and her Nikon

The brownie thief

I went to the hospital earlier than usual so that I would not miss the surgeon's visit. This morning the surgeon had the multidisciplinary meeting with other specialists in this field on Gavin's histology results, and I don't quite know what I was expecting to hear but there is no change in their thinking - it's a high grade SFT sarcoma and not treatable by chemotherapy, and as all the tumour and cancer has been removed they are not proposing any treatment plan. Other than regular scans to check for tumours.

Obviously the worry is what comes next, as this type of cancer is very likely to return. Therefore the surgeon referred Gavin to a different, more progressive oncologist at the Royal Marsden who specialises in sarcomas, and I have been waiting for him to contact me, and I also tried to contact him today but had no luck.

There still was no appointment available for the PET scan but it was agreed that Gavin would get discharged today. Just when I was getting frustrated, the specialist oncologist's office from the Royal Marsden contacted me and now there is an appointment set up for about 10 days time - and we were finally informed there is an appointment for a PET scan tomorrow afternoon.

Gavin had the staples from his wound taken out today - 31 staples down his abdomen - and the PICC line was removed, the pharmacist came to hand over the medicines - bags of it - and then we were good to go. We booked a XL Uber home so that Gavin could get in easily and have space to sit comfortably. He is very pleased to be home.

I contacted our local GP surgery to arrange for the nurse there to do his wound dressing tomorrow. The nurse at the hospital showed me how to do it but as it is very slightly infected and leaking a bit I would prefer the practice nurse to manage it.

Now I'm trying to find my big girl pants to drive into London tomorrow to take Gavin for the PET scan (I never drive in London!). There is a parking garage right next to the scanning centre so that works well.

Oh and it's the brownie thief on her walk (refer to yesterday's blip if that name confuses you!)
