Stonehaven

It was warm and sunny today so Mrs CBL and I decided to visit Stonehaven.  I was surprised, when I looked back at my blips to discover it has been almost a year since we were last there.  In the past, I’m sure, we’ve gone down there twice a year.

We started our walk at the far end of the town to walk to Dunnottar Castle almost three miles down the coast.  The first stretch is along the boardwalk to the harbour.  On the way we passed several metal sculptures created by a local artist (see extras).  There was one new addition of porpoises which was very impressive.

After a short break at the harbour we walked up the steep hill to the local war memorial which had a display on show especially for VE Day (see extras). From there we walked along the cliffside path to the castle (see extras). For anyone who wants to discover the history of this iconic castle here’s a link …

We retraced our steps back down to the harbour and bought lunch from the Old Pier Bakery.  We enjoyed the view over the harbour and rested our weary legs as we ate our late lunch.  The baguettes were very filling and very tasty.

Refreshed and rested we walked back to the car and headed home.  It was a really good day out, Stonehaven never disappoints.
