Føroyar

Today I travelled from home to Klaksvík, in the north of the Faroe Islands, where I will spend the next fortnight.

I'd had a call at 09:00, so A drove me to the airport. I arrived to very variable weather: dark and gloomy on the island of Vágar, but broken cloud and sunshine on Streymoy. There, on the outskirts of the the main town, Tórshavn, I changed from the airport coach to the one destined for Klaksvík. This coach had WiFi, so I could catch up with the news from home: we've had a good offer for my mum's flat, and my PhD student J was having their viva.

On arrival in Klaksvík, I went to the Føroyar Tel shop where, in the perfect English of a young man,  the problem of topping up my data account was soon resolved. I then walked up to the apartment I've rented, was welcomed in fair English by my hosts - folk of my age who live in the two floors above me.

Klaksvík is where I spent five weeks last year, but this time I'm staying on the opposite side of the fijord - looking east - with a view of larger mountains than last year.

Hungry from the journey, my priority was to buy groceries and cook dinner. On my way I took this photo: the view from my apartment is almost as good. I've climbed the mountains to the left and right, but this year I have my eyes on the two in the middle.

After eating, I connected to the University's VPN, and am watching United's Europa League semi-final second leg. At half-time it's not an easy watch... but the second half was rather better, in the end! Bring on Spurs: GGMU
