Island Tour....

Today was meant to be an unorganised day.  I went for another wee explore in the morning.  Had a great wee chat with a woman running one of the local mini-marts. She was telling me about Oistens on a Friday night.  Worked out we were actually planning on going to.  Coming back my usual puddle of sweat impression, went for a dip in the pool.  As I was cooling off, got a phone call and our taxi driver for our pre-arranged tour was in the lobby.  We thought it was tomorrow.  Quick turnaround and we were on our way.

Our first stop was meant to be George Washingtonn house but it was walking distance from the hotel so we ditched it.  We were driving through Bridgetown saying about visiting a Rum Distillery when our driver, Orlando, pulled in telling us that there was one just round the corner.  It was the Stande Distilliery and we got a brilliant tour and tasting led by Asha here.

Next stop was St Nicholas Abbey which is an old victorian style plantation house that have their own rum distillery and tour.  The owner was doing the labelling and her son did the rum tasting.  Ge was a gook.  We also saw a quick glimpse of a green monkey run  through the garden.

Next Orlando took us round the back road out which had stunning views down to the coast but the road down was one of the worst on the island apparently.  Very rutted.

We quickly visited Bathsheba beach.

Lastly we headed back to get dropped off at Oistens.  We didn't stay late enough to see it in its full glory but I got the impression that Oistens is a bit of a party place on a Friday night.  We went for the Fish Frys and fresh fish market.  Orlando directed us to his favourite and we had Marlin and Snapper sitting on tables beside the road.  It was fascinating watching all the comings and going on the road.
