Kousa Dogwood

We had thunder and rain throughout the night. Hubby said it would be a perfect day to rest my foot. I hoped to use my free time to catch up on your journals and type up my sister’s medication list in a spreadsheet. But it was clear this morning. I had breakfast and prayers on the front porch. One of our blippers commented on my frilly azalea about us having an American Pope. I was remiss not to mention it yesterday. God bless Pope Leo XIV. We missed all the tv coverage since we couldn’t get our cable tv channels. Maybe we will hear more this evening. This dogwood by my kitchen window (planted by birds) doesn’t have many blooms but I am so happy to have it after my big one died. I bought metal covers for two of my open bird feeders and installed them this morning. That was all I planned to do outside. Then my eye caught a few weeds in the gazebo garden. As I took the second load of weeds to the weed pile, hubby came out to glue a finial back on a fence post around the formal garden. Before we knew it, we were pruning rose and lilac bushes. Hubby dug out oak tree saplings and I weeded some of the raised bed gardens. Did I mention it was pouring rain now? We were making such good progress, we hated to stop. We called it quits when the rain got too heavy to be bearable. It felt so good to get those soaking clothes off. We had a load of clothes in the dryer and I donned a snuggly warm house dress. Our BIL stopped by to bring me hollyhocks, a jar of apples and a chocolate bar and card for our mother. He picked up the patio tomato and container to plant it in. I am making an apple dessert for our sister Barbara, BIL and mother. My sister is making them dinner for tomorrow. We will pick Momma up for her Mother’s Day lunch and outing at 11:30 tomorrow. Hubby made us pizza while I emptied the dishwasher. Now we are resting on the recliners. He’ll grill steaks later and I’ll bake potatoes. The damp air is chilly but the rain has stopped. Wishing you a rain free weekend. Stay safe. Thanks for visiting.
