There is an old Scottish saying ….

“When the gorse is out of bloom, the kissing’s out of fashion.”

This hedgerow is covered in gorse for the best part of three quarters of a mile making it a bright and cheerful walk, and very popular with locals. It is one of my favourites.

According to Celtic mythology gorse is the symbol of the sun god Lugh because it carries the spark of the sun all year round.
