Cantamath

The day started with a session with all our team leaders at a seminar on developing high performing teams. Always slightly sceptical of these sorts of events, and today started no differently, but I warmed to the guy and some of his ideas. Definitely a few takeaways to help improve our workplace, which in reality is already pretty good in my opinion …

And then back to work, and several more meetings. All good.

Off at 3 to Pick up Hannah and then to CBS Arena to watch Adam participate in Cantamath, a local maths competition between schools. Adam had to compete to get on the team, and then “train” in as much as you can in maths. Their goal was 75 points for a distinction award.

All quite interesting really. 20 questions worth 5 points each, and after the team decides an answer they have to “run” it to the scorer who marks it. Correct and you get the next question, otherwise the question has to go back … The kids had 30 minutes to compete the questions. One of the easier questions, what is the next prime number after 79 …?

29 minutes down and the team were on 70 points and got the final question to the market just as the buzzer went. Was it right? ….

Sadly no, they answered 4 instead of 3, just missing out on their award. But of the 60 or so teams they came around 8th, which I think was pretty awesome!

Well done Adam ;-)
