A Typical Saturday
I think you can guess from my blip where I went this morning… ;-)
Having set off at 8.45am, first of all I headed for B&Q at Stane Retail Park in Stanway which is right beside the Sainsbury’s site. I bought fine sandpaper, a small bottle of clean spirit, masking tape and a brass wall-mounted doorstop. I’d forgotten how much I enjoy a good meander round all the aisles in the big DIY stores - I was as happy as Larry (whoever he is!), and pleased to find the cheapest versions of everything I wanted despite the most expensive ones being displayed more prominently. After that, it was on to the supermarket for the weekly groceries and then a stop off for petrol.
I had meant to start prepping to paint the hall side of the master bedroom door prior to the new carpet being laid, but got sidetracked trying to fix the brass doorstop onto the skirting board behind it. Dad never got round to putting one there, and Mum had used a sturdy little square gift box on the floor against the skirting to stop the door handle crashing into the wall. With the carpet fitters due on Wednesday I don’t want to chance any inadvertent damage to the newly-painted plaster. I now need a power screwdriver to finish the job though, as I wasn’t strong enough with Dad’s old ratcheting one to get the screws fully into the unexpectedly solid wood. I probably didn’t hammer the bradawl far enough in beforehand, so maybe taking all the screws out again and re-doing that might do the trick. Oh well, it does the job for now even if it is a tiny bit loose!
More DIY efforts to come tomorrow afternoon and Monday, and I’m rather looking forward to painting the door. It will be good practice for re-doing the front door, which I plan to do next month.
