Cockatoo Island Convict Precinct

Met my brother and SIL at their hotel for a stroll through Chinatown, the fish markets and around the harbour to catch a ferry to Cockatoo Island. I’d been here once before, years ago before it opened to the public, and again last September.

The island’s earliest European use was as convicts barracks, all beautifully maintained, but spare. Beds little more than a metre wide that slept three with wooden blocks for pillows, 500 men to a barracks.

The whisky survived intact another evening.

Hope you’re having an enjoyable Sunday.
