Exploring the cemetery

With two young neighbours ( 4 and 2) and their mum. You can see J top left, half hidden by cow parsley and wild garlic. Top right is Dryads saddle, or pheasants back fungus. His mum was not happy that he had picked a lump, partly because of damaging it, and partly because none of us knew whether it was poisonous.  A quick google lens reassured us, but there was still a talk needed about fungus and poison.  It’s quite hard to,explain poison to a young child, there’s an awful lot of don’ts when you’re  really inquisitive and adventurous. Bottom left is another fungus - something I’d never seen before. Called coal fungus, it can be used as tinder to light fires. Another name is King Alfred’s cakes, for obvious reasons. The bottom right is of sycamore cherry mites - we saw a few leaves affected with this. I don’t think it does much harm.
I’ve added two extras - one is the wild garlic which J picked for me. The other is of the concert at St George’s Brandon Hill which I attended in the evening.  It was a celebration of local choirs - which are fun and good for people’s wellbeing, but can also put on a really excellent performance.  They did many familiar songs - Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Queen…..but also some South African songs which I really enjoyed. I went because my friend M (from the Oxfam shop) was singing.  It was a lovely event
