Abolition of slavery day
Over the last couple of days here there have been several events to celebrate the abolition of slavery in France , which is celebrated on May 10. I dont think we have a similar day in the UK. These included a market selling goods from previous colonies, conferences, a musical event (which I failed to locate). We watched the wreath laying at the 'monument for deportees ' but it was too crowded for a decent shot so instead went back to take the monument with flowers later (see extra). It was in contrast to 'VE day'celebrations for which there were no local events publicised although we did spot a couple of new wreaths at the war memorial.
