The Calm of Early Morning

The late Queen was wakened every morning at Balmoral by the skirl of the bagpipes outside her bedroom window. I was also wakened this morning by the sound of pipe music but unfortunately it was only 4am and still dark. Since this is the second time it has happened,, I got up to find the  source thinking it would be a piper in the  Meadows but as I stood in the dark on the patio in my nightie, the sound was fainter . I wasn’t prepared to go further afield so the mystery of the pre dawn pipes is ongoing.
When I did  finally get up , it was to a beautiful still morning, not a soul in sight in sight and  with no vestige of there having  been a sea of sunbathers spread over every inch of the Meadows till late last night. I hoisted the sunshade again , but had to leave its shade to join the Merry Widows for our Sunday coffee. By the time we had finished and had dealt with VE Day, Trump and  the Pope amongst other subjects, the sun had retreated behind clouds and a breeze had got up making the whole sunshade  shake alarmingly. I’ve furled it and left it standing in the hope I’ll need its shade again today.
