Me and my Sunshade

I finally took the plunge and manhandled my sunshade into position this morning. Having spent the last week avoiding the task because of the probability of the weather breaking, I took the gamble of the good spell lasting longer than I ever thought possible and hoisting this big beast today.

It and I have never seen eye to eye; it’s tall and heavy and with its base being too lightweight, it has a tendency to fall over in the slightest breeze. A neighbour suggested anchoring the base with this chimney pot which seems to work better. Its other feature is its ability to summon clouds where none existed before so that all the hassle of erecting it  often comes to nought.

It was the most amazing early morning weather, the kind on offer in the Greek Islands in summer. There was not a cloud in the sky and it was still and calm. I put up the sunshade when there was nobody about to see the effort involved and then walked into town for coffee and supplies. I rushed home to sit in the shade and before long, true to form, the clouds bubbled up. However, unexpectedly during the afternoon, the clouds have vanished and my sunshade is doing its stuff magnificently. I’m hoping to furl it overnight and keep it standing on the patio with the hope that it’s needed again tomorrow.
