Another Day in Paradise
Another day in Paradise! The sun and I rose at 5:11 am this morning and I was up and out of the door at 5:30am to catch a sneaky little solo dip in the Porty Briny. I’m still amazed at how many people are about at that time in the centre of town , on bikes, on buses, in taxis, pulling cases behind them as they walk to the station. I arrived at a deserted beach but not for long. The dog walkers were absent but the mad swimmers arrived singly and in pairs after I had made the long walk into an ebbing tide.
The sun was getting its act together behind fragmented clouds in an otherwise blue sky. My sunbeam was guiding me out to sea which was not what I wanted on a solo swim so I ignored it this morning. I judge the water temperature by the degree of ‘ice cream’ head I get when I put my head in the water and I thought it colder than of late. It may have to do with a low tide and the water not being warmed by the wide expanse of exposed beach.
I was so early finishing my dip that I managed to get the first of only two #45 buses that serve Portobello High Street in the morning and which took me home for 7:30 without the need to change buses in Princes Street.
I managed a little housework during the morning but spent some time cutting back the Cotoneaster threatening to take over the patio. It’s looking a lot tidier now and the bit which sat under a wedge of wood with scaffolding on top of it for 5 months has regenerated beautifully.
It’s almost time to go for my TGIF drinks and gossip catch up in the Canopy restaurant. There will only be two of us today the others have had better offers again. I should get out more.
