Life is a Challenge!

TODAY, IT'S ALL ABOUT PEOPLE!

Another great service at Church today, with some good worship songs.  After the children had gone out to their classes, our preacher, Ian Wakeham, asked what impact our lives had on other people - that’s a BIG question!

His sermon was about Tabitha or Dorcas as she was also known, a seamstress, and also the only woman in the whole Bible who was called “A Disciple of Jesus”.  Tabitha was a woman who made her way in the world by selling the clothes she made and who did charitable works too, but sadly she became ill and then died.  Messengers were sent to bring Peter, who came to Tabitha’s house and after sending everyone out of the room and kneeling to pray, she opened her eyes and sat up.

An interesting and thought-provoking sermon as I’m sure she continued with her sewing and her “good deeds and kind acts” after she was brought back to life.  I certainly won’t be remembered for my sewing skills but I will be carrying on with my work as a volunteer at the Community Fridge for as long as I can.

We had a busy morning because not only did we have a car completely full of items we had collected from Morrisons yesterday, but we were also on Coffee duty and I was singing in the Worship Group.  There was a little hiccup though.  To “get ahead” of ourselves, Mr. HCB, our friend Louise, and I did a lot of the preparatory work before the service, but unfortunately, when I popped into the kitchen about quarter of an hour later, there had been an accident with the large pot of cream, which I had tipped into a jug, and lots of it ended up in the parsnips, cucumbers and grapes that were also stored in the fridge.  However, several others rallied round and it was soon cleared up, but it wasn’t a good start, so I decided that I needed to have 5 minutes of peace and quiet before the service started just to quieten myself - and it worked.

I had already taken the shot at the top left of our drummer, Ross and his little daughter, who was also keen to play the drums and cymbals with a drumstick and shaker - not something that is normally done, but I rather liked this particular shot of “Daddy” smiling down at his daughter.  When I looked at it on the computer when I got home, it made me think that God looks down on us like that - perhaps we don’t always get things right, but He still continues to smile down on us and appreciates that we have tried our best.

We always know when summer is coming in our Church, because most of the men seem to enjoy “getting their legs out”!  However, it must be said that many of them wear shorts all year - which in the depths of winter can make one feel rather cold!

The top right shot is Steve, one of our Church Members with Mark, our Church Secretary, who incidentally was also wearing shorts, but you can't see is very brown legs!  They were happy to pose for me because I said I wanted a happy shot of the two of them.

Underneath that is the beautiful, shiny hair of one of our young ladies - I’m sure many of us would be happy to have hair like that - I know I would.

I tried to catch Jonny, who you can see locking up the door to close up the sanctuary, and Matt because they were both wearing shorts, but needed to get out of the way quickly, before I was locked in.

My last shot is of Steve - again - must get a double fee from him for putting him in twice - his wife, Alison in the pink jacket, Clive, one of our new Deacons and Mary-Ann, who is now in charge of running the Crèche each Sunday.  I was rather pleased to see that the sign above them, which says “Jesus Over You” came out well.

So, a great morning!  Our Deacons have a mini “Away Afternoon” at Church - Gary, one of the Deacons, was cooking roast chicken, which smelled amazing and those of us still working and clearing up in the kitchen wished we could stay too but sadly, Coffee Rota Personnel were not invited!

Hope you all have a great week - be blessed whatever you do and I pray that you will have J.O.Y. - Jesus Over You!  M xx
