Torvill and Dean

We took a break from our house moving today to go to Birmingham to see the ice skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean on their last tour before retiring.  We booked this over a year ago before we had any idea of our house moving timescales, so it was fortunate that we managed to get our furniture delivered before today to allow us to use our tickets.

The tour was announced last year - 40 years after they won Gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics, skating to "Bolero".  The tour is visiting many venues, finishing in Nottingham where they started skating.  When we booked, the venue next to the National Exhibition Centre looked to be the most convenient, easily accessible by rail from Bristol.

It was a spectacular and very enjoyable show. Torvill and Dean were supported by a dozen or more skilled skaters in a variety of set pieces .  The Birmingham Resorts World Arena was sold out to a very appreciative crowd - and judging by the age profile, most (like us) remember that Olympics winning performance.
