Boondocks
A great but very long day at Liparamba Game Reserve in the far south of Tanzania, where the country meets Mozambique. There is some very important miombo woodland in a region full of rivers, ridges and steep slopes, forming a corridor of connectivity surrounded by lots of villages and farmland. One of my travelling companions remarked that this was very ‘deep country’. In other places we’d be in the boondocks or backwoods. I’m grateful to be able to visit such remote and unusual locations through my work.
We bounced around on tracks for many hours, in the company of government authority colleagues mandated to manage the area. We returned to Songea city late with red mud splattered all over, washed and collapsed into bed.
