Hello Yorkshire

The elegance of Huddersfield station. I didn’t have time to get a better angle, as our second rail replacement bus service of the day was just about to leave. We did manage to get on a train at Brighouse, and then were very lucky in York to just catch a fast LNER train which was 15 minutes late. We got off in Darlington and decided to get a taxi from there rather than waiting half an hour for another train followed by a taxi. So we ended up getting to S’s mum’s only about 45 minutes later than we would have done if the train that we had paid for had actually been running.

We couldn’t go and see S’s mum though, because the home is in lockdown due to an outbreak of diarrhoea. S’s sister R had left us lunch in the fridge, very welcome. It’s such lovely weather (hotter than home) that we sat out in the garden for a while. In the early evening we headed down to the hotel at the end of the road for gym and swim … I realised when we were in the Premier Inn at Manchester airport last night that I’d forgotten to pack my swimsuit. Oh no! Needs must … I ordered a cheap one from Amazon just before going to bed and it arrived here about 2 pm, not long after we did. Amazing really.

Swim was good, I haven’t done any since we were here at Christmas, so 20 lengths were hard work, rewarded with the traditional G & T in the bar afterwards. It was such a lovely evening that people were sitting outside. And the warm spell seems set to continue!
