Tourists Round Town

Dear O'H dear, Lovely Tea Jenny and The Mini Princesses,

We managed to see loads today - partly because Mary Doll was up and in the shower before 7 am (“I told you I’m not a late riser”).

We spent the morning wandering around Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey and as we headed towards St James’s Park, we passed a load of graduates coming out of Central Hall.

“What do you think they studied?” mused Mary Doll.

“No idea.”

“I’d love to know what they are graduating in,” she mused.

“Why do you even want to know?”

“I. Am. Interested. In. Education.”

“No, you are being nosey,” I stated, thinking this was the end of it.

Until I looked round and realised she wasn’t next to me. And that she was chatting to a robed and slightly bemused young man.

“Project Management,” she declared triumphantly when she walked back to me.

“FFS,” I internalised!

We walked up The Mall towards Buckingham Palace. A crowd had formed opposite the junction with Marlborough Road and Mary Doll asked a policeman what was happening.

“The king is coming out.”

And just at that, the motorbikes roared and out he came, waving at everyone.

Charles must have heard Mary Doll had arrived in London and wanted to see for himself!

In the afternoon we went to The Tower of London. We joined a tour given by yeoman Darren Hardy. He made me pretend to be Anne Boleyn to his Henry VIII at one point, but all was forgiven as his tour was so good. He mentioned that William Penn had been imprisoned in the tower before heading off to America and founding Pennsylvania. There was someone on the tour from there and the Yeoman joked that the founder of her state had once been a convicted criminal.

“So is our president,” she quipped back!

I think The Tower is an amazing place and I could have listened to the yeoman for hours talking about its history. We spent most of the afternoon there before finishing off our bus trip.

In the evening we went for dinner in Fishworks before going to see ‘A Choir Of Man’ which was brilliant and definitely hit the spot with Mary Doll.

A very lovely day.
