Talking to Vilnius
Up for a good breakfast today, then we checked out, asked the hotel to hold on to our baggage for a few hours and set off for a wander. It had rained overnight and it was a dull morning, with the sun coming out only after we returned to collect our bags.
Lots of lovely things to see, but not the greatest day for pictures. We came across a large circular dish in the middle of the road which was the Dublin portal - my Blip today. There was a live picture on the other side of two ladies waving at us - we waved back and they did the same. It turned out that they were in Vilnius, Lithuania! We crossed the River Liffey and walked on up to the castle, or what's left of it, and the two cathedrals -St Patrick's and Christ Church - but as they both charged quite a lot to enter we left them to it!
We saw much more, but eventually had to return to the hotel - by tram! The ceiling over the reception desk is a brick lined arch - trains roar across it!
Tram again over to Heuston Station for the train to Ennis, over on the west. From there we caught the bus to Doolin, where we were staying. The accommodation we'd rented was about 15 minutes up the road, but as soon as we'd got off the bus and sorted our luggage a lady stopped her car, asked if we needed help, and drove us up to the house! The kindness of the Irish already!
Off on a guided walk over the Burren tomorrow morning.
