If you can't beat them...

Flaps down ready for landing Captain!

Still wonderful sunny weather!  As we have various things on later in the week we made Monday into Wednesday.  In other words we had our cake and coffee day with Kanyl today rather than later in the week.

As a change we headed for the Thacka Nature reserve.  This reserve arose out of work to reduce the flooding in Penrith from the modern heavy rain.  When we had the jewellers in town one year we had 1.6m (5') of water in the cellar and a foot or two outside.

What has been done is the construction of a berm across Thacka Beck.  Thacka Beck was once the water supply for the town.  The supply was ensured by drawing as much water as would "pass through the eye of a millstone" from the much larger River Petteril.  The berm will hold water back with only a limited amount through the berm so slowing the flow and preventing flooding.  Behind the berm is a lagoon and marsh.

Today the main water birds were Mallard but I managed to catch this one landing as I felt it was more interesting then yet another duck sitting on the water.
