Castle Hill

Having had a lovely morning with a visit from my aunt and uncle who brought us some luscious date and walnut cake, the gardener who cut all the lawns, the district nurses to see to mum and the carers to boot the afternoon didn't go quite as well.

I shot myself in the foot really by letting mum sit in her chair by the window rather than be put back to bed but she rapidly slid down the reclining seat and I couldn't sit her up on my own so had to wait with her although she slept most of the time happy to lie flat. The pedicurist for mum having promised to come between 3 -- 5 o'clock didn't, then wanted to turn up at 7:00! Why didn't he inform me of any of this?

The upshot was to find an early evening blip so checking Maps and compass bearings I shot to Castle Hill to try and not only get there but get the sun behind it before it went down. Luck was on my side. The view was stunning.

Built to celebrate Queen Victorias Jubilee in 1897 the tower is consequently named the Victoria Tower see Extra. Originally it was an Iron Age fort and there is still a well there.
