Derelict
It is another rainy day, not ideal for wildlife or animal photography so I turned my sights to the old Abbey a few miles from us. I've posted the main Abbey a number of times - it's such a charismatic old relic, even as it sadly creeps towards ruin. I will put an image of part of the main building in Extra. This is one of the "outbuildings" which is also falling into ruin. I love the way the vegetation is taking over the building - it's evocative to me.
The Abbey was purchased several years ago with plans to convert it into condos, a wedding/banquet venue and hotel. Although we occasionally see people looking at the structure there is no work going on nor any upkeep of any sort so I'm not sure what is going on. It's a shame as the bones of the abbey itself are elegant and with a lot of love and money could be something special. In the meantime, however, it makes for endless "derelict" photo ops.
I've managed to divert Jax's attention from the bunches of little chipmunks in the garden so that we don't have a repeat of the "unfortunate incident" the other day. Soon enough the little chippie's will wise up (or be eaten by something else) and will be able to dodge the dog handily. The adult chippies are always quick to head into the vegetation in the garden where they quickly lose Jax. The little ones will learn.
It's been too wet out to make the rounds of the nest boxes but I should get a break in the weather tomorrow so will have a look then. The bluebird pair that is nesting this spring is very quiet, not like last year's pair who were singing constantly and attacking anything that got too close to the nest (including me). Hopefully they will be successful!
Thanks, as always, to Marlieske for continuing to host the Derelict Week challenge!
