Day 7; Panda-monium

It was supposed to be an educational visit. A chance to show Varnika some Western art and history.  So we drove from the NE of the island to the capital, Palma, to see the Gothic cathedral and a couple of art galleries.  We did that - see extras - and then met the dancing Panda.

It was a bit spooky to say the least.  Scared some small children.  It took a shine to Varnika and was a bit reluctant to let her go.

And then it rained; we shelter in a cafe (nice cake and coffee) while the staff rush round rescuing seat cushions from the outdoor seating area.

The drive down to Palma was educational as well.  Varnika put some music on in the car and her playlist left me speechless.  For a moment.

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Janis Ian and then the really big surprise - Marty Robbins;  Cowboy ballads from the 1950/60s.   It took me back.  I got my first guitar when I was 15 and learned to play Marty Robbins songs.

I asked Varnika why she was listening to this old stuff - she said that the guys in her band back in Goa - one from the USA, another from Canada - introduced her to them.  “And they’re really good songs” she says.
