Chaser
I went to Walton Colliery Nature Park this afternoon, the other side of Wakefield. Yet another colliery that has been transformed into a beautiful outdoor space with lakes and conservation areas teeming with wildlife. In one of the reeded waterways I found quite a few four spotted chasers and here this female is flying low over the water dipping her abdomen in and ovipositing. Not an easy task to photograph as she was flitting between the vegetation.
I had packed to go home to Gloucestershire but mum didn't look too good and I ended up picking up prescriptions as she has been in bed all day. It was nice to get out with the camera for a bit when the clouds cleared.
The most exciting incident on my walk was a fox in broad daylight sneaking to the waterside and carrying off a small duck. I only caught a brief glimpse as he trotted away and I'd mistakenly thought the racket of the geese on the lake was a slight argument between them.
