A miserable day

Being on an island in the middle of the Atlantic means the weather can often be bad. Today on Pico island was one of those days with rain the whole day. We were given the option of cancelling this morning’s RIB trip but several of us decide to go out despite the poor weather conditions and lack of sightings. This ended up being a bad idea and we had to endure a long period of time out in the ocean in driving rain and strong winds. All of our clothing was soaked through, the waterproofs cannot handle that kind of wet, and there is nowhere to dry it. A thoroughly miserable experience especially as we spotted no wildlife at all.
This afternoon we had a wee run out with the tour operator to see the south of the island, again it rained and another lot of clothing got soaked. There are lots of lovely old windmills about and this one is normally open for birdwatching, today however it was shut, just our luck!
