Flash

A young northern flicker woodpecker gave itself away by flashing its yellow tail. As here, often only a brief  movement is available and if attention is elsewhere, the moment is passed.

Fortunately, this time my eye caught up with the flash and located the source in amongst the trees. He remained stationary long enough for a few shots and luckily this one was free of intervening twigs.

Extra: Nap Time.
