Wound up in Wexford

Altamont gardens

We're having a couple of days up in West Wicklow.

Several months ago, Cassiopeia Winds were giving a concert in Wellington Bridge, just a short distance from us.  I wanted to go, but it clashed with another commitment.  So I looked them up, and found they were due to play at the West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival.  I booked tickets for their concert, and for the string quartet playing tomorrow.  And found a little AirBnb to stay in.

I checked the map of our route to Ballymore Eustace, and found we were passing very close to Altamont Gardens.  Looked to be worth a visit, and, apart from €2 parking charge, it was free.  It was lovely.  Just our sort of garden - lots of woodland, a lake, riverside walk.

After our visit (and spending yet more money on plants!) we drove on to our AirBnb.  Decidedly bijou, but it's only for two night, and a lovely situation.  And a rather nice gastropub in the village where we indulged ourselves before driving the short distance to Russborough House.

The wind quintet were super, the intimate surroundings of the salon at Russborough was perfect.  The only slight negative was that they were set up in front of the windows, so they were back lit - see extra taken from beside the stage at the interval..

Afterwards, back to our bijou lodgings for the night.
