Eadestown
We took a winding and leisurely route on back roads, getting caught for quite a few minutes in a rural "traffic jam" - see first extra.
We emerged onto a more major road, and drove past this very striking piece of art. This is in Eadestown, and is made from the root system of a bog yew. Also nearby was a rather splendid gothic water fountain - 2nd extra - made in memory of Captain Thomas Tickell by his grateful tenants.
We were on our way to Hunting Brook Gardens, a somewhat idiosyncratic garden put together by Jimi Blake. Almost the first thing we saw there was a pseudopanax, so it was clearly going to "our sort of garden". I took lots of photos, but the light was harsh and they really haven't come out well.
Afterwards, we went into Blessinton, in search of food and coffee. We ended up eating pizza by the lake.
Then a brief return to our lodgings to rest, before going to another concert at Russborough House, this time a French string quartet. They were great, and to give you an idea of the quality of their playing, the viola player's A string broke at the start of the 4th (vif et agité) movement of the Ravel string quartet, and he played the entire movement on the three remaining strings. 3rd extra taken during their encore.
