Cumbria’s dry

Apparently it is official - we haven’t seen rain for a long time. Imagine the North West being one of the driest parts of the country - unheard of. Who goes to the Lake District at any time of year without rain gear!

This is usually an expanse of deep water that we pass on a back road we use to avoid the A66. Whether it is natural, or man-made, it is usually quite a big lake with lots of water; it wasn’t that long ago that water was flowing from it across the road making it impassible.

At the moment it is very dry indeed. All the water has evaporated, the mud has shrunk and caused these deep cracks. We were so fascinated we had to stop and look.

Interesting, but this lack of rain is very worrying. It will need several days of torrential rain to make any difference now.
