Oystercatcher
This oystercatcher is one of a pair of oystercatchers which we see regularly on our walk. This I believe is the male bird keeping a lookout to alert the female bird of any danger as they have a nest nearby.
In Celtic mythology, the oystercatcher is strongly associated with St. Brigid. The bird is sometimes referred to as Gille-Brighde or Gille-hridean, meaning "page" or "servant of Brigid". Legends depict the oystercatcher protecting St. Brigid from harm, leading to the bird's connection with the saint.
