A view from Jeanneb

Last day…

almost and yet more blue skies and blue water.

This is Old Dornie Harbour which we seem to see more often when the tide is out and the majority of it is mud. When the tide is low and the rocks are exposed if you look closely, preferably with binoculars, you will see lots of seals. Today we didn’t expect to see any but with the help of my telephoto lens I could pick out about half a dozen basking on the barely submerged rocks - extra 1 Beyond the harbour is Isle Ristol that used to house a herring processing plant as did the biggest Summer Isle Tanera Mor but the herring shoals went elsewhere and it became uninhabited.

We set out from here to walk to Fox Point around the headland, you can walk through to Polbain or make it a circular but that means a long hike back on the road. Once we reached the reconstructed salmon bothy at Fox Point Chris suggested he walk back to the harbour for the car and I carry on to Polbain. This we did and I completed the pleasant walk over to the road and went on to take a look at the Fisk Gallery in Polbain. Lovely things but I resisted.

After a drink at the Am Furan we headed back for a ‘finish everything  off’ salad for lunch. We then took a last stroll down to the beach. It’s not a white beach but very special one. Can’t resist taking pictures of it. Looking at my back blips for this week, 13 years ago on May 15 th John proposed to Grace on this beach. Without John coming into out family we would never have come here and had that great pleasure for 15 years now. Thank you John and family.

Always on the lookout for wildlife we were surprised to see ponies on the beach. A horse and two Shetland’s. It has to be said one of the little ones was quite reluctant to go in the water but they both rolled in the sand. Extra 2
When we returned they were walking up the field alongside us. So hot we had to open all the windows when we got in and I found my cream deodorant had melted when I came to use it later. No log fires needed here this week.

The plan was to have a chilled afternoon but we soon had to get ready to go over to Lochinver again for a last evening treat.
We walked along the shore road to the restaurant keeping an eye on the shoreline for otters but instead got two red deer running down the street. Extra 3
Lovely food as usual. Chris had scallops and monkfish and I had Cullen Skink ( couldn't resist) and sea trout. We’re both too full. Another essential was to buy a bottle of their gin, my absolute favourite. Peet’s Loc an Inbher gin.

Perfect end to the day and week though driving  back on that ‘Wee Mad Road’ with the sun setting in your face is quite something!
