Town Crier on Platform 2
I went to Gloucester by early train for a routine mammogram (aka t*t torture) at a mobile unit at thr hospital. I arrived early and saw a little of Gloucester, then went to the hospital. The torture only took five minutes and by then I had decided against walking down to the (inland) docks because the mercury was rising: it was going to be a very hot day.
I went back to the station. A Town Crier, of stout build, got on the train in the next carriage. I couldn’t help thinking he must have been very hot in that garb. I wondered where he was going. I will add a link for those unfamiliar with Town Criers. https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Town_crier
I decided to get off at Stonehouse, the next station, and take a look around the charity shops, I found a few things (two puzzles and two books), noticed the empty shelves in the Co-op supermarket (it’s been cyber attacked, to devastating effect) and caught the train back to Stroud.
Later in the afternoon I went to the dentist. It’s supposed to be NHS but the hygienist appointments cost £80 and have to be prepaid! Ouch.
All in all, it’s been a pleasant and active day (many, many steps) and also quite an expensive one what with charity shops, refreshments, impulse purchases of sale goods). Both the dentist and the torture could have been a lot worse, although of course the results are not in yet.
