Rouen
An impressive ancient Gallo-Roman city founded by the Romans on the right bank of river Seine. In 911 Rouen became the capital of the Duchy of Normandy under the leadership of Viking chieftain Rollo or Gange Rolf as his name is written in Norwegian. Have been walking in the city all day, visiting La Cathédrale de Rouen, as well as the painting of the Cathedralé by Claude Monet in Musée des Beaux-Arts, seen Eglisé Saint-Maclou, a coffee at a sidewalk restaurant, more walking before lunch at a restaurant. Saw the Gros-Horologe tower which was built in the 14th century with is clockwork from 1389. Hard to understand how they were able to build all the very old impressive building in the city. Have seen old impressive buildings other places too, but always wondering how they managed it at that time. Heading eastwards tomorrow.
