Newstead Abbey

A fresh N Easterly breeze today so not quite as hot.
Today we went to Newstead Abbey which wasnt too far away ( I didnt want to drive too much)
Newstead Abbey was the poet Byron's home. . You can visit the house but today we chose to walk  round the gardens .
There are 2 lakes  formal gardens and a Japanese garden which we've visited several times before ( the last time was in torrential rain!)

The gardens are not as well kept as they were. The japanese 'gazebos' are in disrepair and the whole garden is overgrown. A sign said that as it was a historical garden they couldnt do a lot to change it  but photos dotted along the paths showing it century ago showed it could be restored or at least plants could be trimmed back,
Still, they have planted a row of cherry trees so some work is happening and it is still a pleasant area to walk round.

It was warm enough for icecream then we walked up to the top lake and through the woods.
A lovely relaxing day, just what we needed.
