Day of Adulting!
Coffee, art, discussion and
noodles(!) Feeling Wise :-D
Ben had the carers today, he hasn't had them on a Saturday for a while and he was really reluctant to go. He struggles with transition, particularly from me (I'm a kind of safety net I think) to less well known carers. This sounds obvious.. and it would be easy to keep him 100% with me (well, not really for me!) but once he's moved his mindset on to being with other people he really enjoys making new connections and exploring in the community, he talks so positively about the things he does when he's out and he also gets lots of treats that he wouldn't get with us (and goes to places we wouldn't manage to take him to.) So it would be easy to listen to him when he asks to stay at home and think that it was best for him but experience tells me he'll genuinely enjoy it when he goes. Today it took about 20 minutes of me listening to him have a wobble and encouraging him to think about the day ahead before he was able to dig deep and say he was ready to go. It's very stressful as I always feel conflicted in those circumstances and also anxious that he'll start physically lashing out, so by the time he'd actually gone I was pretty wiped. Mr KCNQ2Haiku had gone for an early run, so I had a minute to regroup before he got home and then once he tidied himself up, we carried on with our plan for the day. Pretty low key but we went into Salford Quays and saw the Lowry 360 immersive exhibit which we really enjoyed and had a good mooch around the Lowry Gallery afterwards. We did a mini bit of shopping and then went for lunch at Wagamamas, we were able to sit out in the sunshine and had a leisurely chat in a way we just can't do properly at home. It's so nice to be out of the routine together sometimes :-) I was starting to fret a little bit about Ben as the app that tracks him was saying he'd been dysregulated and attacking staff and we could see his blood sugar rising too. In the end they rang me and I said to bring him home a little bit early so I could deal with his bloods. They were lovely though, they said the lashing out had been fleeting and then he'd been happy and he says he's glad he went. It's just a rollercoaster for us to witness, I think. We've just about got his bloods stable again now and he's pretty chilled, he's been playing monopoly and bouncing on the trampoline.
Is anyone else tired??!!
