Oak apple Gall (Wasp nest)
On a guided walk at the Scottish Wildlife Trust's Woodhall Dean nature reserve, near Spott, Dunbar, East Lothian.
Wonderful ancient woodland walk reserve, containing mainly Scottish native trees, some of which are literally hundreds of years old. Many originally planted to harvest the oak bark for tanning leather, and others for charcoal making.
Bird calls did abound, with such rarities as Willow Warbler and Garden Warbler and Cuckoo. Chiff Chaff and Chaffinch could be heard all around, as could the Cantor of them all, the male Blackbird.
Brilliant day out.
Extras: Brown Spot and Wall butterflies. Yellow tips also seen.
Only one horrible, a Tic, quickly disposed of.
