VE80 In Falmouth

A bright and sunny day, no wind, Mrs S and I dressed in our finery, beret and medals for me, scarf, tied to handbag, and medal for Mrs S and we set off.
First stop, Falmouth Moor, at 9:00am we had the VE80 Flag raised on the municipal building, the proclamation read and a short gathering.
A group of around a dozen veterans then adjourned to Wetherspoons for coffee and breakfast.
At the appropriate time we again gathered on the Moor. Road closures cost money and require a police presence therefore the Town Council had asked us to “make our way to Kimberley Park” but Veterans being Veterans we waylaid a couple of willing police officers, formed up and marched on the road to Kimberley Park.
A short, meaningful and moving service held at the Kimberley Park War Memorial saw all three Services, the Merchant Navy and civilian services participate.
Service over, Wreaths laid, the Veterans again did what Veterans do, adjourned to the pub to remember and commemorate in our own way.

Mrs S and I then picked up some odds & ends we needed and headed home to change before heading to Pendennis Castle for the Beacon Lighting. A pretty good evening, great music from the performers, pretty good speech from the Mayor and we were on our way home.
We dropped friend Steve home, made our way home, coffee and bed after a long day.
