DUST STORM
It's SVRA (Sportscar Vintage Racing Association) weekend at Road America. Just about every type of vintage racing machine you could imagine, both open and closed wheel, was there. Much qualifying and racing was done today.

BIG weather change from yesterday which was very hot and humid (78°F. - 25.5°C.) lots of late day rain and even a couple of tornadoes were spawned a few miles from the track. TODAY?.....high of 52°F. (11°C.), totally cloudy, misty and the wind was blowing a houlie. I got chilled to the bone...quite a difference between that and profuse sweating yesterday. I'll dress more warmly tomorrow.

MAIN BLIP: Ligier JFC class. Mostly 12 to 15 year old boys handling pretty fast cars and spending A LOT of daddy's money. In the race before, a vintage car oil up the main straight. From the size of it I'm guessing the oil plug came out because it took 40 minutes of scrubbing to clean it up...oil everywhere. Then came the boys on a green flag and the remaining cleaning product looked like a dust storm in their wake. Even obscured the starter's platform in the background. And this was AFTER the oil dry product was vacuumed up and the excess blown off the track. Apparently they can't get it all.

EXTRA #1: After a couple of laps, one of those boys went straight into the gravel barrier as he missed Turn 1 (too much speed; too few brains) but managed to go a 180° turn and extract himself from the Kitty Litter. He was in the middle of the pack going into the turn...now he finds himself at the back and playing catchup to the rest of the field.

EXTRA #2: The last race of the day featured the Formula 4 group. After the formation lap, the pack ascends the long climb uphill to the start/finish line and the green flag. They are in order of their qualifying times.
