Perthville
… used to be called Perth until they got confused with Perth the capital of Western Australia. This is the Main Street outside our daughter’s home. We went out for a visit this morning.
While we were there I was intrigued by a little fan sitting on top of their wood heater. It is run by the Seebeck effect. I had never heard of it before but makes sense. Don’t read further if you are not into electrics…..
The Seebeck effect is a thermoelectric phenomena where a voltage difference is generated across two dis-similar materials connected at different temperatures creating a temperature gradient causing an electric current. This, in the case of the fan, makes it turn the blades (without batteries or other power). It is the way things like electronic thermometers work. Wow. I’m always blown away when I find out things like this.
The book is going well.
