Silly things of my mum ‘s
These two adorn two of the bottles on my kitchen windowsill. I’m lucky to live near a ‘refill’ place so I get washing up liquid, laundry liquid and handwash from them. And use the plastic bottles over and over. My mum didn’t make these - she probably bought them at some kind of fundraising event - but they lived on her kitchen windowsill for many years. They must have been on mine for 14…..I noticed them in particular today as they both had their heads at a rather perky angle.
I broke another thing of my mums yesterday, a little hand painted bowl from Amalfi in Italy. A place that was special to both mum and dad, as he was there for a short while in the war and loved it. I remembered a neighbour on my street WhatsApp group mentioning that she liked doing Kintsugi - a Japanese way of mending broken things that makes it obvious it was once broken, by putting gold paint along the joins. I asked if she would - and she was delighted to take it on. That will be a nice blip, when it’s done. I spent most of today either gardening or working in my allotment. And I enjoyed listening to the exciting FA Cup. Congratulations to Crystal Palace. The first cup they’ve won in their 120 year history. There’s a lesson in there somewhere:)
