Crossing the Kent Estuary.
The start of a charity walk from Arnside, along the foreshore and then across the estuary to Grange over Sands.
I met a friend at Arnside station this morning. A long time ago we also walked over the Sands, the intention being to walk from near Flookburgh to Kents Bank. The walk was led by legendary guide Cedric Robinson. He was the recognised guide (the “Queen’s Guide to the Sands”) for 56 years, only retiring at the age of 86.
We didn’t get to Kents Bank, Cedric deemed it unsafe after we had travelled quite a long way and we had to return. Still, it was enjoyable walking on the sand in bare feet. I suspect this group will be OK, the low tide and lack of rainfall means the Kent is crossable.
My friend and I today walked to the Bob in Cafe at New Barns Bay, a much more sedate perambulation.
