Standing Tall

From Kinghorn Loch Bird Hide.
The solitary coot chick is doing very well and now diving and foraging for itself.  I think they are starting to brood another clutch as one parent sat tight on the nest for the whole hour I was there.

The second coot family have been very lucky and all five chicks are still surviving.  They are younger than the one in my blip and are still being fed by both parents.  Their growth is also slower because the food has to be shared five ways - seven ways if you count the parents.

The female swan is still incubating - that is four weeks now so should hatch next weekend.  The male was hanging about on the water nearby.

Nothing else of interest occurred while I was there.
The hide is still wasp-free.
