Glen Affric
Back blipping as we lost wifi connection for the last few days of our holiday. Glen Affric is an area in which remnants of the ancient Caledonian forest, which dates back to the end of the last ice age , has been able to hang on and is now being supported to regenerate and spread . The hope is that remaining pockets such of these , with the right management strategies, will eventually join up and create a large forested region .
The profusion and variety of wild flowers was noticeable as were the understoreys which form delectable layers beneath the tree canopy . The tree canopy itself , made up of mainly of birch trees is more open and let’s in plenty of light, dappled light , which on a sunny day, in particular , is cheering to walk through.
I have wanted to visit this area for a long time and it lived up to all my expectations. I’m glad we were able to stay long enough to get a real feel for the breath of the landscape.
