Romanian Traditions Festival, Maidstone
Today we decided to pop into town first, rather than do our usual weekly food shop, as there was a Romanian Traditions Festival on so we thought it would be a good chance to get some photos. The event itself took place in Coronation Square outside the Lockmeadow entertainment complex.
When we got there it was already quite busy with lots of families milling around the food stalls. To be honest it was all a bit underwhelming as there didn't seem to be any other activities going on and this was only confirmed when we tried some of the food. We went for chicken skewers straight from the grill thinking they would come with traditional condiments and sauces but they were just plain grilled chicken cubes supplied with two slices of plain white bread - they were not particularly great and came with no hint of anything Romanian!
The highlight, however, was this woman singing some tradition folk music (which I think is called the donia). She sounded fantastic and some of the families started to join hands and dance to the music and that's when I captured the main image.
On the way back home we stopped at a service station to get some bits and bobs that that's when I saw these guys with their wonderful Lambrettas and Vespas (at least I think that's what they were!) so I decided to buck up some courage to ask if I could take their portrait. They were absolutely fine with me taking their photograph so here it is!
