Kings of the Castle?
For the last couple of years there has been a major infrastructure project going on in Norfolk to lay an underground cable to bring the power ashore from an offshore wind farm that is being built in the North Sea. There have been site entrances at all the points where the cable crosses a road but the work seems to have been virtually finished in this part of Norfolk, as the land is gradually being returned to farming use.
I passed this entrance today where there were two flat topped mounds of topsoil by the gate waiting to be distributed. These gulls had decided they were too good to miss, and had set themselves up on top to survey the area. I did wonder whether they were two separate factions and whether there was any rivalry between them; maybe I should have waited to see if there was a standoff!
A bit further along the road a car coming in the other direction flashed me and waved his arm indicating I should slow down. Just around the bend there was a swan walking down the centre of the road that clearly wasn't sure what to do or where to go. I managed to get past him and flashed the cars coming in the other direction but I do hope he got into a field safely.
